Striped Expensive Ling ( Cyathus striatus)
The Striped Expensive Ling ( Cyathus striatus ) is a small ( 1-1.7 cm wide and 0.7-1 cm high ), cup-shaped fungus of the genus Expensive Linge.
Appearance
The fruiting bodies are externally covered with long brown hair and striped lengthwise inside. Young fruit bodies are covered with a white Epiphragma. The long ellipsoischen spores (16-20 × 9-10 microns microns ) are in light gray, lenticular, 1.5-2 cm wide peridioles included.
Ecology
The Striped Expensive Ling is a relative frequent Saprobiont, the wood scraps lying on or in the ground, twigs or branches, especially of oak, beech, spruce, but also maple, hornbeam and other deciduous and coniferous trees occur. The species is found almost worldwide.
Importance
Cyathus striatus has no food value and is economically insignificant.
