Cylindropuntia rosea is a plant of the genus Cylindropuntia in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ). The specific epithet rosea means (Latin roseus) rosy, rosy red '. English common names are " Branched Pencil Cholla " and " Diamond Cholla ".

Description

Cylindropuntia rosea grows bushy, branched from the base with ascending branches and reaches stature heights of 20 to 50 centimeters. On the gray-green, cylindrical, 10 to 15 centimeters long and 1.6 to 2.5 centimeters in diameter measured drive sections are clearly visible hump. The large areolae are 2 to 3.5 inches apart. They carry 2 to 5 millimeters long yellow glochids. The four to nine spines, sometimes only a single present, are needle-like, yellow to reddish to gray and 1 to 4 inches long. The first description as Opuntia rosea by Augustin - de Candolle Pyrame was published in 1828. Curt Backeberg put the type in 1958 in the genus Cylindropuntia.
