Cyril Vasiľ

Cyril Vasiľ SJ ( born April 10, 1965 in Košice, Czechoslovakia ) is a Curia, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Cyril Vasiľ studied from 1982 to 1987 Catholic theology and philosophy at the Roman Catholic Theological Cyril and Methodius Faculty of the Comenius University in Bratislava. He received on 14 June 1987 the Bishop of Križevci, Slavomir Miklovš, the sacrament of Holy Orders. Cyril Vasiľ was incardinated into the Eparchy of Prešov. Vasiľ acquired in 1989 at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome, a Licentiate in Canon Law. On October 15, 1990, he entered the Congregation of the Jesuits, and in 2001 he took the final vows. 1994 Cyril Vasiľ received his doctorate at the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Canon Law.

2002 Vasiľ was elected Dean of the Faculty of Canon Law at the Pontifical Oriental Institute and the Pro- Rector. Cyril Vasiľ was appointed Rector of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in 2007.

On 7 May 2009, he was named Pope Benedict XVI. Titular Archbishop of Ptolemais in Libya, and ordered him to the Secretary of the Congregation for the Oriental Churches. He received his episcopal consecration on June 14, 2009, the former Bishop of Križevci, Slavomir Miklovš, in the basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore; Co-consecrators were the Archbishop of Prešov archeparchy, Ján Babjak SJ, and the bishop of the Eparchy of Košice, Milan Chautur CSsR. Cyril Vasiľ be the motto semper chose Parati ( " Always be prepared "), which comes from the first letter of Peter ( 1 Peter 3:15 EU).

Cyril Vasiľ is consultant to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith and the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant Peoples and the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity (since 2010). In addition, he was appointed advisor to the Synod of Bishops in 2005. Since January 29, 2011 Cyril Vasiľ is a member of the Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People.
