The Fragile Blasenfarn ( Cystopteris fragilis ) is a Central European common representatives of Wimperfarngewächse ( Woodsiaceae ).

Description

The Fragile Blasenfarn is a perennial, deciduous Hemikryptophyt with short rhizome. The Fragile Blasenfarn reaches stature heights of 10 to 45 centimeters. The leaflets are often feathery pinnately lobed or twice. The pinnules are pointed or ovate. The second-order leaflets are cut - notched to pinnatisect. The last vein branches run into the Fiederspitzen from back. The spores are regularly prickly. The spore maturation period is from July to September.

The chromosome number is 2n = 4x = 168, 2n = 5x = 210 ( this pentaploiden plants are sterile), 2n = 6x = 252 or 2n = 8x = 336

Occurrence

The Fragile Blasenfarn is distributed worldwide. In Central Europe it is common and widespread. It grows on moist limestone cliffs, on walls and in stone mounds of debris in forests. He is kalkliebend and rises up into the Alpine area ( up to 2400 m).

In the phytosociological system, he is considered a local character species of the association Asplenio viridis Cystopteridetum fragilis in association Cystopteridion fragilis, its supra-regional character species he is. It also occurs in ravine forests of the Association Tilio platyphylli - Acerion pseudoplatani.

Use

The Fragile Blasenfarn sometimes serves as Zierfarn in humid, shady walls and comes there occasionally in attractive, larger stocks.
