The Czech crown ( Koruna česká ) is since 8 February 1993 ( shortly after the division of Czechoslovakia and the establishment of the Czech Republic on 1 January 1993 ) the currency of the Czech Republic. A crown is divided into 100 Heller ( Haler ).

Coins and banknotes

There are or were the following coins: 1 crown, 2 crowns, 5 crowns, 10 crowns, 20 crowns and 50 crowns. The coins of 10, 20 and 50 Heller were recovered. In the retail sector is nevertheless still expected in 10 - Heller- steps, but from commercial or rounded up for cash payments to full crowns.

The 50 - krone coin was minted in 1993 to accelerate the currency technical detachment of the Czech Republic from Slovakia - it has not been possible in a short time to print 50 - kroner bills. Having enough 50 -crown bills had been printed, the coins were withdrawn, however, remained valid. For several years, they are brought back into circulation, because it is no longer worth by rising wages and prices to print new banknotes ( whose purchasing power has become lower, currently about 2 euros, they are used a lot and thus worn too fast). Another reason is the possible adoption of the Euro as official currency of Czech Republic.

The 50 - krone coin was selected in 1994 in the survey world coins in the category of current coin as Coin of the Year 1993 ( beautiful coin in the world).

There are or were the following notes: 20 crowns ( valid until 31 August 2008), 50 crowns (valid until 31 March 2011), 100 crowns, 200 crowns, 500 crowns, crowns in 1000, 2000 and 5000 crowns crowns. Furthermore, were printed between February 8, 1993 and August 31, 1993 banknotes to 100 crowns, 500 crowns and 1000 crowns in the design of the Czechoslovak crown, all of which were collected on 31 August 1993.

Euro and ERM II

Czech Republic wanted to introduce the euro in 2010 originally.
