The Czech Agricultural University, Prague, Czech Česká zemědělská univerzita v Praze (short czu ), is a public agricultural university in the Czech Republic. It existed as a department, since 1920 as a faculty and since 1952 as a separate university since 1906.

History

The basis for agricultural training in the Czech Republic was laid during the Austro-Hungarian monarchy. Already in 1776, lectures were introduced to animal husbandry and set up a department of Agriculture in 1788 at the Charles University in Prague at the Faculty of Philosophy.

As part of a reorganization of the agricultural education was annexed to the Technical Institute, later the Technical University of Prague in 1812, which for all areas of agriculture presented training programs from 1845. The independent agricultural department was created in 1906. The first agricultural engineers were graduated in 1911. In 1920 the Faculties of Agricultural Sciences and Forestry Sciences were established. In 1952 the university became independent in 1966 and moved into the newly built campus in Prague -Suchdol.

Since 2005, the Czech Agricultural University in Prague is a member of the Euro League for Life Sciences, a network founded in 2001 euröpäischer universities. Founding members are the University of Hohenheim, the University of Agricultural Sciences, The Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University of Copenhagen, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala and the University of Wageningen. In July 2005, the Warsaw Agricultural University joined the network. Since 2012, the CZU is also a partner in the EU funded research project Biofector.
