Czersk, Masovian Voivodeship

Czersk on the Vistula is a district of the municipality Góra Kalwaria in the Masovian Voivodship, Poland. From 1350 to 1869 Czersk was a city.

History

South of settlements dating from the 7th to the 8th century a castle was built in the 11th century. The earliest mention is found as Чьрньскъ ( Čьrnьsk, sealed ( i) rn ( i) sk ) in the Chronicle Lawrence, a copy of the Russian Primary Chronicle. In the 12th century the castle seat of a Castellan and 1252 of the bishopric of Posen below Erzdiakonats was. In the same century it became the seat of the Dukes of Mazovia. 1350 was the place city charter, which was confirmed in 1386 as Kulm law. By 1400, the castle was expanded and extended closed -like. Despite the rise of near Warsaw had Czersk for some time as a residence significance, but then fell back yet. 1869 withdrew the former Russian administration of the place, like many places in Poland, the town charter. Castle ruins

The existing castle ruins today are based on a brick building from the 14th century. Until then, there had been at this place a fortress made ​​of wood. The ruin consists of two round towers and a Gothic square tower, the latter serves as an input. The eastward round tower was used as a prison. Access was from the Wall tour, from here the prisoners were lowered through a hole on the 10 meters below the bottom of the tower. The west tower housed the weapons and ammunition chambers. All towers had wooden pitched roof. The connecting the towers, originally 7-8 foot wall parts are partially worn down to the ground. The foundations of the wall ramparts are up to 5.5 meters in the ground, the thickness of the walls is 1.80 to 1.85 meters. Presumably, under the Polish Queen Bona, wife of Sigismund I, several palatial buildings were erected in the castle. After Bona left the country began construction of the decline of the castle.
