Czesław Marek

Józef Czeslaw Marek ( born September 16, 1891 in Przemysl, Poland, † June 17, 1985 in Zurich ) was a Polish composer and pianist.

Life

Marek was born in 1891 in the Polish Przemysl. During his music studies he was a pupil of Hermann Graedener, Teodor Leszetycki and Karl Weigl in Vienna and Hans Pfitzner at Strasbourg. From 1916 to 1919 he taught at the Berr's Conservatory in Zurich. From 1929 to 1930 he headed the Conservatory in Poznan, after which he lived again in Switzerland. He died in 1985 in Zurich.

Marek composed a symphony (3rd prize at the International Schubert Competition 1928) and Sinfonietta, an orchestral suite, Capriccio and meditations for orchestra, chamber music, choral music and songs. Between 1940 and 1972 he published his school of piano playing.
