Czesław Olech

Czesław Olech ( May 22nd, 1931 in Pinczów, Poland) is a Polish mathematician.

Czesław Olech 1958 doctorate at the mathematical Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1962 and habilitated there. He led the International Banach Center for Mathematics (1972-1992) and was president of the Science Council of the Mathematical Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences ( 1989-2007 ).

Olech is a member of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Russian Academy of Sciences, and a member of the Polish Mathematical Society, the European Mathematical Society and the American Mathematical Society.

Olechs main areas of work are ordinary differential equations and the theory of optimal control.

1992 Czesław Olech was awarded the Stefan Banach Medal, he is an honorary doctor of the University of Vilnius ( 1989), the Jagiellonian University in Cracow ( 2006) and the AGH Mining and Metallurgy Academy in Cracow ( 2009).
