Daeseong-dong

Daeseong -dong is a village near Panmunjeom in the South Korean province of Gyeonggi -do. It is one of only two villages in the demilitarized zone of the Korean peninsula ( DMZ).

Special status

Daeseong -dong propaganda bears the nickname " Freedom Village". Less than two kilometers away is Kijong -dong, the designated pages of North Korea as a "peace village", titled in South Korea, however, with " Propaganda Village". Both settlements disconnect among other minefields.

Due to its exposed and superior location within the DMZ both villages are under constant surveillance in particular by the warring Koreas and in each case under the protectorate of the Korean People's Army on the one or the United States Forces Korea ( as the representative of the United Nations ) on the other side and both objective and source of mutual agitation. Population

Attractions

Daeseong -dong distinguished from a truss tower with a height of about 100 meters. This serves as a flagpole and carries on its top a nearly 140 -pound flag of South Korea. Its construction was responding to a previously built in Kijong -dong North Korean counterpart.
