Dafydd Elis-Thomas

Dafydd Elis Elis -Thomas, Baron Elis -Thomas, PC, ( born October 18, 1946) is a Welsh politician and former Presiding Officer of the National Assembly for Wales By 1999 to 2011. He sits in the House of Lords, a former party leader of Plaid Cymru and since 2004 a member of the Privy Council.

Personal

Thomas grew up in Ceredigion and in Llanrwst. In 1970 he married Elen Williams, with whom he has three sons. They were later divorced, and from 1980 to 1992 was his partner Marjorie Thompson, the chairman of the peace movement organization Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament. In 1993 he married Mair Parry Jones, head of the Interpreting Division of the National Assembly. He lives in Llandaff, Cardiff and in Betws -y -Coed.

Professional career

From 1994 to 1999 he was chairman of the Welsh Language Board and is a former member of the Arts Council of Wales and the British Film Institute.
