Dahon

Dahon is, with a market share of more than 66 % (2006), the world's largest manufacturer of Faltfahrrädern. The physicist David Hon founded the Los Angeles-based company in 1982. Meantime are also manufacturing factories in China, Macau and Bulgaria. Dahon sells bikes under its own name as well as under other brand names such as Ridgeback, the subsidiary Yeah and Biceco Brands and Novara, belonging to the American company REI. The folding bike manufacturer is a member of the Global Alliance for EcoMobility. Dahon holds more than 200 patents, some of which have become the industry standard.

Business

History

Dahon was founded in 1982 by David Hon and his brother Henry in Southern California. The first factory was established in Taiwan in 1984, the first bicycles were produced.

Production

The wheels for the Chinese market are mainly manufactured in Shenzhen, China, however, is still another plant in Beijing. Since early 2012, all intended for sale in Europe Dahon bikes are manufactured in Bulgaria.

Models

In 2012, Dahon offers 28 different models with aluminum or steel frame. The sizes of the tires vary here from 16-26 ". Most models are folding bikes, the "Flat Pak " use the patented Dahon technology, such as the Mountain Bike " Tarazed ". One of the best-selling Dahon wheels is the model Boardwalk D7.

Limited models

Due to the 25 anniversary of the production, Dahon 2008 brought a limited edition of 250 pieces special edition of the m.mu. series on the market - the m.mu. XXV. 2009, it was announced that Dahon will offer a special edition of the Curve D3, in collaboration with the Spanish design companies Kukuxumusu. This series was limited to 1000 pieces. Awards

Dahon received in 2009 at the Taipei International Cycle Show two "Innovative Products Awards". In September 2009, the Ios XL, a bike for the typical suburban commuters, has been awarded the Euro Bike Gold Design Award. Only 77 of the 400 candidates were given a Euro Bike Award. Controversy

From 2011 to 2013, the Dahon North America Inc. was in a dispute with the son and the wife of the founder. Joshua Hon and Florence was a violation of their fiduciary duties alleged by them have assets embezzled as senior executives illegally. Moreover, they should have used resources and intellectual property of the company, to set up the competing companies Tern and Mobility Holdings.
