Dan Ahearn

Dan Ahearn (actually: Daniel William Ahearne; born April 2, 1888 in Athea, County Limerick, † December 20, 1942 in Chicago, Illinois) was an American track and field athlete of Irish origin.

Dan Ahearne grew up with his older brother Tim Ahearne, triple jump Olympic champion in 1908 in Ireland. Daniel emigrated in 1909 from the United States and emphasized at the immigration, the e at the end of his name. Tim Ahearne followed his brother to later.

Dan Ahearn won 1910-1918 eight championships of the Amateur Athletic Union in the triple jump. On 30 May 1911, he jumped in New York 15.52 meters. This length was 1912 recognized as the first official world record in the triple jump.

1912 Ahearn could not compete in the Olympics because he did not yet possess U.S. citizenship. At the Olympics 1920 he was with a width of 14.08 meters sixth.

Dan Ahearn was 1.78 m tall and weighed 69 kg in his playing days.
