Dan Tichon

Dan Tikhon ( born January 5, 1937 in Kiryat Haim, Haifa ) is a former Israeli politician of the Likud. He was from 1981 to 1999 member of the Knesset since 1996 its president.

After schooling Tikhon studied economics and international relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA ) from. Subsequently, he did his military service in the Golani Brigade, also known as Brigade No.. 1 known major unit of the Israeli armed forces, and was last promoted to Sergeant Major. From August 1984 to July 1992 he served as Vice President of the Parliament. Then he was from July 1992 to June 1996 Chairman of the Committee for State Control. In addition, Tikhon sat from July 1992 to June 1999, the German-Israeli parliamentarian group. Finally Tikhon held on June 17, 1996 to June 7, 1999 the post of President of Parliament. In the Knesset elections of 1999 he lost his seat in parliament.

2010 took over Tikhon chair the Task Force for International Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research ( ITF ), headquartered in Berlin.
