Shevah Weiss

Schewach Weiss ( Hebrew שבח וייס; born July 5, 1935 in Borysław, then Poland) is an Israeli politician, diplomat, professor and author.

Weiss's family emigrated in 1947 in the British Mandate of Palestine. He studied at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he received in 1959 a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in International Relations and Political Science. In 1961 followed by a Master of Arts ( MA) in Political Science and Contemporary Jewish Studies. His Ph.D. in political philosophy he received 1969. 1975 he became professor of political science at the University of Haifa. In the same year he founded the Department of Communications at the University and was Chairman of the Political Science forum.

His political career began in the late 1960s. From 1969 to 1981 Weiss was a member of the City Council of Haifa from 1975 to 1981, he worked in the city administration. From 1981, he sat for Avoda / Maarach in the Knesset. During the 12th and the 14th Knesset Weiss was Vice President of the Parliament, in the 13th legislative period, Parliament President. 1999 White resigned from from the Knesset.

From 2000 to 2006 he served as Chairman of the Yad Vashem Council. He also served from 2000 to 2004 Israeli Ambassador to Poland and founded in 2004, Centrum Badań nad Współczesnym Izraelem (Center for Israel Studies ) at the University of Warsaw.

White has published numerous books, especially political science works, but also publications on the Holocaust and some children 's books.
