Dancing House

The Dancing House ( Czech Tančící dum ) is the nickname of a 1996 realized the office building in the Czech capital Prague.

It was born from the former Yugoslavia (Zagreb) Czech architect Vlado Milunić designed in co-operation with Canadian architect Frank Gehry, at the banks of the Vltava ( Rašínovo nábřeží 80, 120 00 Praha 2 ) built.

The building is inspired by a rational dialogue between a totalitarian, static vertical approach, on the one hand and a dynamic, conceived in the social upheaval on the other. In addition, it is reminiscent of a dancer in the glass pleated dress, with its delicately nestled in the Lord with hat. For this reason it is often called Ginger and Fred (after Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire ).

The deconstructivist construction resulted in its completion in July 1996 to a passionately run, heated discussion, which has since largely abated. The project was supported by the former Czech president Václav Havel, who lived for decades near the first fallow land ( the building that was there, was destroyed in a bombing raid in 1945 ). He hoped that from the originally planned as a cultural building new cultural activity.

Today, however, the building houses mainly multinational companies. On the roof is a French restaurant with views of the Old Town of Prague.
