Dangur

Dangur ( Ethiopic script: ዳንጉር ) is a district ( woreda ) in the west of Ethiopia. It belongs to Metekel zone in Benishangul Gumuz region. The capital and largest city of Dangur is Manbuk.

Geography

Named after the woreda is the Dangur Mountains.

Dangur bordered to the north by the Amhara Region, on the east by the Woreda Pawel, on the southeast by Mandura, to the south by Bulen, on the southwest by Wenbara and to the west by Guba and to the neighboring country of Sudan. The area is about 8387.19 km ².

Population

According to the Central Statistics Agency Dangur had 2005 42.059 inhabitants in the year. The population density was 5 people per square kilometer below the Zone average of 10.5. In 2007 there were 17.21% in urban areas, this figure is higher than the area average of 13.5 %.

In 1994, of 30 741 inhabitants, 40.47% Agau - Awi, Gumuz 33.88 %, 16.53 % and 3.3% Amhara Shinasha, 5.81% belonged to other ethnic groups. 51.76 % were Ethiopian Orthodox Christians, 21.6% followers of traditional religions and 21.01 % Muslim.
