Daniel Bacheler

Daniel Bacheler also Daniell Batchelar (* March 16, 1572 in Aston Clinton ( Buckinghamshire ); † January 29, 1619 in Kent ) was an English lutenist and composer of the late Renaissance.

Life

Daniel Bacheler trained by his uncle Thomas Cardell († 1621), a lutenist and " Dancing Master " at the court of Queen Elizabeth. Bacheler with John Dowland seems to have been known, as he dedicated a work to him, the Galliard upon a galliard by John Dowland.

After 1601 was Daniel Bacheler chamber secretary of Queen Anne with the unusually high salary of 160 pounds, while others lutenist had to settle for 20 to 40 pounds on the farm. About 50 of his solo pieces were preserved only by Dowland and Anthony Holborne more According solos have survived. Furthermore, handed down a number of works for mixed consort.
