Daniel David Palmer

Daniel David Palmer or DD Palmer ( born March 7, 1845 in Pickering, Canada, † October 20, 1913 in Los Angeles, USA) was the founder of chiropractic.

Life

Daniel David Palmer was born in Pickering, near Toronto, Canada. At the age of 20 he moved to the United States. Palmer had various jobs as a bartender, schoolteacher, and a grocery owner. He had interest in the various health philosophies of his time, such as magnetic healing, osteopathy and spirituality. Palmer exercised the profession of a magnetic healer from 1885 in Burlington and Davenport, Iowa.

After a successful Adjustment ( Setting up a vertebra) of the deaf janitor Harvey Lillard on September 18, 1895 This could hear again. Palmer coined the term chiropractic (Greek chiro = hand) and founded a school in 1897, which was based on his work, Palmer College of Chiropractic ( Davenport, Iowa). 1902, the school had graduated 15 chiropractors. 1906 Palmer was prosecuted under the new medical law in Iowa for practicing a medical profession without a license and sentenced to 17 days in jail. Shortly after, he sold the school of chiropractic to his son, Bartlett Joshua ( BJ ) Palmer, which she directed until his death in 1961. Soon after the sale of the school, DD Palmer went to the West Coast, where he helped to establish new Chiropraktikschulen (Oklahoma and Oregon). From 1906 to 1910 Palmer published the book Science, Art and Philosophy of Chiropractic. He died in Los Angeles, California, on 20 October 1913.
