Daniel Geale

Daniel Geale ( born February 26, 1981 in Launceston, Tasmania ) is an Australian boxer and former world champion of the IBF and WBA middleweight.

Amateur career

As an amateur he won in 2000, 2001 and 2002, the Oceanic Championships Welterweight, 2004, in the light middleweight. 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004, he was named Australian Champion. In addition, he won at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, the gold medal in the welterweight division. He took in 2000 at the Summer Olympics of Melbourne, in 2002 at the World Cup in Astana and the box world championships 2003 in Bangkok part, but reached no medals.

Professional career

On 1 October 2004 he played in Southport his first professional fight and won by KO in round 3 against the Queensland champion Danny Bellert. In his next fight, he defeated the Western Australian champion Domenic Devanna by Ko in round 2 and also won the rematch by KO in the first round.

On 16 September 2005, he won the Pan -Pacific Championship title the IBF, by Ko in the 2nd round over Steve Douet. On 22 October, the Oriental -Pacific Championship title of IBF followed by co in round 8 by Garry Lake.

On 14 December 2007 he won the world title of the IBO, a respected but not to the four most influential world bodies ( WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO) scoring world title. This he lost in his second title defense by a split points decision to the former two-time WBA world champion Anthony Mundine.

On 31 October 2010 he defeated in an eliminator for the chance to win the IBF title, former IBF world champion Roman Karmazin by Ko in the 12th round. Thus, he was given the right to challenge the reigning IBF titlist Sebastian Sylvester. This he finally defeated on May 7, 2011 in Neubrandenburg in a 2:1 vote.

His championship belt he defended for the first time on August 31, 2011 in Australia by unanimous decision against Eromosele Albert. On March 7, 2012, he defended the title on points against Osumanu Adama. On September 1, 2012, he won the title unification against WBA super middleweight champion Felix Sturm. Geale chose to initially deny a voluntary title defense against Anthony Mundine, instead of boxing against WBA mandatory challenger Gennady Golovkin. Then the title of the WBA Super World Champion, he was revoked.

On January 30, 2013, he defeated Anthony Mundine ( 44-4 ) against which he had in 2009 suffered his only defeat as a professional so far, by unanimous decision. Finally he lost his IBF title on August 17, 2013 just after points at the British Darren Barker ( 25-1 ).
