Daniel Harding

Daniel Harding ( born August 31, 1975 in Oxford ) is a British conductor.

At the age of 17 years Harding, a group of musicians to perform Pierrot Lunaire by Arnold Schoenberg and sent a recording of the performance to Sir Simon Rattle in Birmingham. After he heard the recording, dedicated Rattle Harding for one year (1993 /94) as his assistant at the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. Then Harding attended Cambridge University, but after his first year at the University appointed him to be his assistant Claudio Abbado at the Berlin Philharmonic.

From 1997 to 2000 Harding was Chief Conductor of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra from 1999 to 2003, he headed the German Chamber Philharmonic Bremen, since 2003 he is Music Director of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. In 2005 he conducted at La Scala in Idomeneo at the opening of the season as a stand-in for Ricardo Muti, who had recently resigned as chief conductor of La Scala. In Aix -en- Provence Festival in 2005, he conducted Così fan tutte. 2004 Harding was appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra from 2006. From the season 2007/ 08 he has been chief conductor of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. Harding presented numerous CD recordings, mainly for Virgin Classics and EMI.

Harding was married to the violist Béatrice Muthelet and has two children, Adele and George.
