Daniel Passent

Daniel Passent ( born April 28, 1938 in Stanislav, today: Ivano- Frankivsk, Ukraine) is a Polish journalist.

Daniel Passent studied journalism in Warsaw, Leningrad, at Princeton University and Harvard University in the 1950s and 1960s. In the second year of study at the University of Warsaw in 1956, he began his journalistic career in the communist youth magazine Sztandar Mlodych (Flag of boys). Since 1959 he works for the political weekly magazine Polityka, only interrupted by stays abroad. Passent speaks five languages. From 1990 to 1997 he was editor in Boston for the Spanish-language monthly magazine El Diario Mundial; 1997-2002 Polish ambassador in Chile.

In addition to his reports and columns he wrote several books, among other things, the Vietnam War, the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, about the drug problem in the United States and about the only Polish world-class tennis player Wojciech Fibak. While still a student he wrote satirical cabaret numbers for the student cabaret STS. Here he met his future wife Agnieszka Osiecka, with whom he had a daughter. Agata Passent is now also a journalist and also studied at Harvard. He also translated books and lyrics by James Baldwin and Martin Luther King into Polish.

Today, he has a very popular weekly column in the weekly magazine Polityka.
