Daniel Piscopo

Daniel Piscopo ( born February 11, 1920 in Cospicua, † 14 December 2009) was a Maltese politician of the Malta Labour Party (MLP ) and a former minister.

Biography

After attending school at the Lyceum of Malta, a native of Cospicua Piscopo graduated in medicine at the Royal University of Malta, which he with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. ) and 1943, the Doctor of Medicine ( Medical Doctor (MD ) ) finished. Subsequently, he worked as a physician.

Piscopo started his political career in 1947 in the Association of Malta Labour Party (MLP ) in his hometown of Cospicua and as a member of the National Executive Committee of the MLP. In 1950 he competed unsuccessfully as a candidate of the MLP to a seat in the House of Representatives. The following year he was but then first elected Members of Parliament, in which he represented the interests of the constituency 2 for two years. In 1953 he failed in his efforts to re-election, the then only in the subsequent election he succeeded in 1955.

After the independence of Malta in 1962 he was defeated in a renewed bid for the House of Representatives so that he was only in 1966 re-elected Members of Parliament and re-elected in the elections in 1971 and 1976. Piscopo thus took until 1981 the interests of the MLP in the constituency 2

After the electoral victory of the MLP in 1971, he was appointed by Prime Minister Mintoff to health ministers in his cabinet. In October 1974 he took over as part of a Government reshuffle the post of minister of post, electricity and communications. He was then in September 1976 tourism minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Mintoff and sat down in this capacity in 1977, inter alia, in the Federal Republic of Germany for the strengthening of tourism in Malta one. In October 1978 he resigned as minister.

After retiring from Parliament in 1981, he sat down again as a general practitioner.

In 1996 he received in addition to a number of other politicians, the Commemorative Medal for the 75th Anniversary of the Maltese government.
