Daniel Richter
Daniel Richter ( born December 18, 1962 in Eutin ) is a German artist.
Life
Raised in Luetjenburg district of Plön, Daniel Richter studied 1991-1995 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Hamburg with Professor Werner Büttner. He worked as an assistant to Albert Oehlen. Daniel Richter designed album covers for the Hamburg record label Buback, which he now carries himself, and Chicks on Speed Records. From 2004 to 2006 he was professor of painting at the University of Arts in Berlin. After he had resigned prematurely ("I 've never worked on such a crappy high school. " ), He took over in October 2006, the Chair of the General picturesque room at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. Richter lives and works in Berlin, Hamburg and Vienna and is married to theater director Angela Richter.
Work
Daniel Richter painted exclusively abstract to 2000. In his early works he sits primarily with purely formal issues of painting apart. He looks at them, in the context of their own history, as the dullest medium at all ( see quote ) and explores its potential in his pictures. As of 2000 figurative moments sneak into his pictures a (fool on a hill, 1999), which will eventually become completely narrative, representational motifs. The psychological intellectual content can sometimes be interpreted autobiographical, but can be read in a broader sense as a reflection of a perceived state of the world and deal with political issues. The open possibilities of interpretation are perhaps the result of a "sampling" method, which is preceded by a careful composition of the pictures.
Judge images have references to documentary photography, art history and current affairs. They are usually very colorful, large-sized and covered with streaks and encrustations. Asked about this, he said in an interview:
"This has somehow become independent. In the beginning was this gorgeous spot, this is something, for example, films, when the melt. Actually, there are always the paranoid glances: Infrared! Drugs! Award
On 26 June 2009 Daniel Richter was awarded the art prize worth 20,000 euros Finkenwerder, which is one of the most valuable art prizes in Europe.
