Daniel Salamanca Urey

Daniel Salamanca Urey ( born July 8, 1869 in Cochabamba, † July 17, 1935 ibid ) was the 42nd President of Bolivia from 5 March 1931 until he was deposed in a coup on November 27, 1934 ( during the Chacokriegs ).

Political career

Daniel Salamanca Urey studied law and was elected in 1899 with 30 years for the Liberal party in the Chamber of Deputies of Bolivia. Two years later, President José Manuel Pando appointed him as Minister of Finance. Finally Urey left the Liberal Party and helped to found the new Republican Party. It failed in 1917 in an attempt to become vice president. Also in this party considered it Urey not long before he was again co-founder of the "real Republican Party" ( Partido Republicano Genuino ). 1925 Urey tried to become president, was defeated in the election, however, Hernando Siles Reyes.

Struck by his defeat, Daniel Salamanca Urey withdrew from politics and taught law. After the fall Siles by the military ( primarily the result of the Great Depression ), Urey came a second time and in 1931 president of a Liberal Republican coalition.

Fall

On 27 September 1934, the Bolivian generals deposed him while he visited the headquarters of the military in Villa Montes. The conspirators decided ( among other Major Busch) to use the more docile Vice President José Luis Tejada Sorzano to preserve the democratic appearances. Salamanca retired to Cochabama, where he died a short time later.
