Dantewada (Hindi: दंतेवाड़ा, Dantevāṛā ) is a town in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh with about 6,600 inhabitants. It is the administrative seat of the district of Dantewada.

The city is one of the oldest cities of India and was once the capital of a kingdom and as Tarlapal and Dantawali known. The city's name is derived from the goddess Danteshwari, considered the incarnation of Shakti.

  • The Danteshwari temple in Dantewada is the temple of Danteshwari, a local goddess. Built in the South Indian style temple is one of 52 Shakti pithas, holy places of Shakti worship.

Dantewada is located in the heart of Indian tribal land. The majority form " tribals ".

Dantewada had 2001 6.632 inhabitants in the year. The male population has a share of 53 percent of the female of 47 percent. Dantewada has a literacy rate of 74 percent, higher than the national average increase of 59.5 percent; in men it is 78 percent among women at 61 per cent. In Dantewada 14 percent of the population are under the age of six years.
