Darío Rodríguez

Octavio Darío Rodríguez Peña ( born September 17, 1974 in Montevideo) is an Uruguayan footballer who currently stands at Peñarol Montevideo under contract.

Association

Darío Rodríguez played in the Youth for the Huracan Uruguayan clubs Villegas and Higos del Mar. In 1990, he moved to the youth department of Sud América. From 1992 he played in the first team from South America. In 1995 he moved to Mexico to Toluca. In 1996 he returned to Uruguay and played until 1998 for the Club Atlético Bella Vista. He then played for the multiple national champion Peñarol Montevideo. Following the 2002 World Cup Rodríguez moved to FC Schalke 04, where he had a contract until 2008. His contract was terminated at the request of the player on 4 January 2008 due to a bereavement in the family. On 26 January 2008, the crowd favorite was adopted in a test match against FC Basel. He went back to Uruguay and joined his old club Peñarol.

At FC Schalke 04 header and the ball strong players came first as a left-back and left-sided midfielder for use, then mostly in central defense. In 102 Bundesliga games get him six hits. Moreover, in the 2002/03 season he scored a goal in the UEFA Cup game against Belarusian side FK Gomel. In his honor, dedicated Schalke fans a song with the following text: Hey Mister Uruguay, Darío Rodríguez, straddle the opponent from behind to! First one, then two, then three, then four: tibia fracture, we thank you!

Since the Clausura 2008 he has returned to Peñarol under contract. There, he won the Uruguayan national championship in the seasons 2009 /10 and 2012/13. By the end of the season 2012/13 he graduated since then a total of 126 games in the Primera División, scoring eight goals. Moreover, the statistics for this career section 25 has graduated encounters (one goal ) in the Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana four games and two appearances in the Liguilla.

National

For Uruguay, he played his debut on 17 February 2000 until his last mission on 10 July 2007 51 matches ( four goals). For years he was captain of the national team and one of their top performers. In qualifying for the Football World Cup 2006 in Germany the national team of Rodríguez failed to Australia. In the first leg in Montevideo he scored the 1-0 winning goal for his colors. In the return match after 120 minutes it was 1-0 to Australia, so that a penalty shootout had to make the decision. Rodriguez missed his penalty and was thus one of the unlucky Uruguay.
