Dartford Cable Tunnel

The Dartford Cable Tunnel is a tunnel under the Thames between Kraftwerk Little Brook in Dartford and Thurrock. The 2.4 km long tunnel with a diameter of three meters was built between 2003 and 2004 to lead a 400 kV power line from National Grid under the river through. Each phase of the line consists of a XLPE insulated high voltage cable with 150 mm diameter. The line replaces one that has arrived at the end of the useful life of oil-insulated 275 kV line, which was created in Dartford road tunnel under the roadway and amplifies the power supply. The installation was carried out by ABB. The tunnel is passable, but not publicly accessible.
