Darwin R. James

Darwin Rush James ( born May 14, 1834 in Williamsburg, Massachusetts, † November 19, 1908 in Brooklyn, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1883 and 1887 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Darwin Rush James visited the Mount Pleasant Boarding School in Amherst ( Massachusetts). His family moved in 1847 to Williamsburg (New York). In 1850, he went commercial transactions after in New York City. Between 1876 and 1882 he was Secretary to the New York Board of Trade and Transportation. After that, he was 1876-1882 Park Commissioner of Brooklyn. Politically, he was a member of the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1882 he was in the third electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Hyatt Smith on March 4, 1883. After a successful re-election in 1884, he opted not to run again and was eliminated after March 3, 1887 the Congress of. After that he had in 1890 to preside over the United States Board of Indian Commissioners and in 1898 a member of the New York Canal Commission. James then pursued his commercial transactions. He died on 19 November 1908 in Brooklyn and was then buried in the town cemetery in Williamsburg ( Massachusetts).
