Daryl Vaz

Daryl Wesley Phillip Vaz (* December 15, 1963 ) is a Jamaican politician of the Jamaica Labour Party ( JLP ). He was from April 2009 to January 2012 Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister (Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister ).

Life

Daryl Vaz is a son of Douglas Vaz, who was during the government of Prime Minister Edward Seaga 1980-1986 Commerce and Industry Minister (Minister of Industry and Commerce ). Vaz visited the Mona Preparatory School from 1974 to 1980, the Campion College from 1981 to 1983, the Miami Dade Community College in Miami, Florida. From 1983 he worked in the used car import industry, including as Managing Director of various companies. Vaz is married to his second wife and has with his second wife, a child together. From the first marriage he had five children.

Policy

Vaz from 1986 to 1990 Member of the Kingston & St. Andrew Corporation Council, then moved in the 1990s but returned from active politics. He left the JLP for some time, to go along with his father Bruce Golding's National Democratic Movement, before they again returned to the JLP all 2002.

In the parliamentary elections on 3 September 2007 Vaz was elected as a candidate of the JLP for the constituency of Western Portland House of Representatives. After the victory in this election, the JLP formed the new government and by the newly elected Prime Minister Golding Vaz was the Minister of State (Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister ) appointed. Vaz ' election was subsequently challenged by Abraham Dabdoub, the defeated opposition candidate of the People's National Party ( PNP) and canceled by court order, as Vaz at the time of the next election of the Jamaican also had the American nationality. After Vaz had taken U.S. citizenship, took place on 23 March 2009 by-election in Western Portland place, in which he was confirmed as a member of the House of Representatives. On 1 April 2009 he was sworn in again as Minister of State.

Shortly after Vaz was appointed as part of the reshuffle on 6 April 2009 as Minister without Portfolio in the Office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Information and Telecommunications, as well as for special projects. When Andrew Holness took Golding's successor as prime minister in October 2011, he took over Vaz in his function in his cabinet. Vaz resigned on January 6, 2012 from the office after the JLP was defeated in the parliamentary elections of 29 December 2011, the PNP.
