Daskot

Daskot ( Bulgarian Дъскот ) is a Bulgarian village in the Oblast Veliko Tarnovo with an area of ​​just under 2 km ² and 444 inhabitants.

Location

Daskot lies about 7 km east of the town Pawlikeni ( Bulg Павликени ) on the border between Vorbalkan and Donauetiefebene at an altitude of 250 m above sea level. NN.

Traffic

Every three hours keeps in Daskot the bus Veliko Tarnovo - Pawlikeni. Furthermore the village over land to road links to Pawlikeni, Paskalewez and Lesitscheri.

Economic situation

Due to poor infrastructure Daskot is of little interest for young people, and of the once over a thousand inhabitants are less than 450 left. These are made up mostly of seniors, Roma and western immigrants who appreciate a quiet, rural life, together. This has the consequence that a large part of the land lies fallow and break down many houses. To lie in Daskot nowadays many public buildings such as cafes, restaurants and former retail businesses broke and decompose slowly.

An abandoned operation, the one-time electrical appliances (radios, TV sets ) were prepared and the former library and a ruined church witnessed the once thriving village life. In the village school today, a kindergarten is housed.

Todor Zhivkov and Daskot

The future leader of the People's Republic of Bulgaria, Todor Zhivkov lived from 1938 to 1942 in Daskot because his wife Mara Maleewa there and in the neighboring villages worked as a doctor. They had married in 1938.
