DataCite

DataCite is an international consortium, which has set itself the goal to provide easy access to scientific research data, to increase acceptance of research data as legitimate and citable contributions to scientific research and to support the preservation of research data to ensure transparency and sustainable use of to ensure the research.

History

DataCite was founded in December 2009 in London as a registered association of organizations from six countries.

The founding members include the British Library (BL), the Technical Information Center of Denmark ( DTIC), the Library of TU Delft (Netherlands), the National Research Council 's Canada Institute for Scientific and Technical Information (NRC - CISTI ) (English ) the California Digital library ( english), Purdue University (USA) and the Technical Information Library ( TIB). The office of DataCite is run by the TIB Hannover.

The concept has great interest internationally. Only one year after the founding DataCite had already registered 1,002,631 records, scored 15 renowned research libraries and technical information centers from 10 countries to its members and worked with more than 50 data centers around the world together, which store the data permanently registered.

Objectives

DataCite promotes data sharing, access to research data and an improved protection of research investment. As a global consortium brings DataCite individual regional (national) members, which can provide direct service to the scientist. The Cooperation of the world's research-based scientists and provides a global access to scientific research data.

Technology

To allow easy access to research data, are assigned to these digital object identifier of the DataCite members (Digital Object Identifier ( DOI ) ). The registration is done in cooperation with data centers that are responsible for quality assurance, maintenance and storage of the contents. DataCite is the umbrella organization of the connected DOI registries member of the International DOI Foundation ( IDF).
