Datong District, Taipei

Datong (Chinese大同 区, Datong Qū Pinyin ) is a municipality in the west of Taipei. In the south of Datong, located Dadaocheng, one of the first settlements in present-day Taipei. With a population of about 125,000 people and an area of 5.68 km ² Datong is one of the smallest districts of Taipei.

Overview

Datong was in former times an economically important district in Taipei. Since Taipei's commercial center is migrated to Zhongzheng, Da'an and Xinyi, Datong is nowadays no longer economically significant. Today the district is mainly famous tourist for its architecture from the Japanese colonial period and the Qing era, particularly along the Dihua Street (迪化街).
