Xinyi District

Xinyi (Chinese信义 区, pinyin Qū Xinyi ) is a district in the center of Taipei. It has about 227,000 inhabitants over an area of 11 square km. In Xinyi there is the town hall of Taipei and the Taipei 101, Taipei World Trade Center, Sun Yat- sen Memorial Hall and other buildings. This Xinyi is a center for government and business.

History

Xinyi originally belonged to the district of Songshan, which was founded in 1920. In the present territory of Xinyi were, among others, the hamlet Zhongpo, Wufenpu, Sanzhangli and Xingya. 1938, the village of Songshan was incorporated into the city of Taipei. Since the late 80s the district Songshan with over 450,000 residents already housed a fifth of the population of Taipei, Xinyi 1990 detached from the southern half of the district.

Xinyi can be reached by Metro Taipei Nangang on the blue line and the brown Wenshan Line. The red Xinyi Line is under construction.

  • Brown Line: Liuzhangli, Linguang
  • Red Line ( under construction): Taipei 101/World Trade Center, Elephant Mountain.

Also located in Xinyi the Songshan railway station of Taiwan Railway.

Road

The provincial road PH 5 from Taipei to Keelung runs through Xinyi as Zhongxiao East Rd, Section 4 and 5

Near the town hall of Taipei is the Taipei City Hall Bus Station, run by the long-distance transport buses.
