David Ashworth

David Ashworth (* 1868 in Waterford, † 1947) was an Irish referee and coach who coached several years Oldham Athletic and Liverpool. Ashworth in 1906 the first coach of Oldham Athletic. After eight successful years he moved to Stockport County, whose team he supervised during the First World War. 1920 Ashworth was coach of FC Liverpool. Although the team initially won only two out of eleven games, he led the team yet, with a gap of eight points on the master from Burnley, a respectable fourth place. The following season, Liverpool Ashworth led to the third championship. In his third season, the team was also on championship course before Ashworth returned in the middle of the season to his relegation-threatened Exklub in order to be closer to his family. However, even he could not avoid relegation and Oldham dismounted as Table. Liverpool, despite only one victory in the last seven games by six points champion. After the descent Ashworth Oldham left towards Manchester City. When the club but already there was little time later the relegation zone again, Ashworth resigned from his post as manager back. After a brief tenure at FC Walsall he finally ended his coaching career.
