David Baker-Gabb

David John Baker - Gabb is a New Zealand ornithologist. He was known especially for his work on Australian birds of prey and the birds of Australia, New Zealand and Oceania. In addition, he served from 1993 to 1997 as director of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union.

Career

Baker - Gabb studied agriculture and biology at Massey University in Wellington, where he graduated in 1979 with a Master of Science; In his master thesis he dealt with the marsh harrier. He then went to the Monash University in Melbourne, where he held the spot consecration and other Australian birds of prey received his doctoral degree with a further work on the marsh harrier.

As a result, he devoted himself from 1984 to 1987 the research and species conservation of steppe runner. Between 1988 and 1989 he explored the life of the fox hawk in the Northern Territory, before he was appointed director of the Department of Environment and Conservation of Victoria in 1990, when he served until 1992.

From 1993, officiated Baker - Gabb as president of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union; in his tenure fell includes the establishment of Gluepot Biosphere Reserve in South Australia. After 1997, Baker - Gabb turned increasingly to environmental protection, founded a company to provide advice on conservation issues and coordinated a program for the conservation of steppe runner.

Family

David Baker - Gabb is married since 1981 with the ecologist Julie Catherine Fitzherbert, who co-designed the Handbook of the Birds of Australia, New Zealand and the Antarctic. They have two children.
