David Brookman, Baron Brookman

David Keith Brookman, Baron Brookman ( born January 3, 1937) is a British trade unionist, Labour Party politician and life peer.

Life and career

Brookman was born as the son of George Henry Brookman and Blodwin Nash. He attended the Nantyglo Grammar School in Monmouthshire. Brookman worked from 1953 to 1973 as a steel worker for Richard Thomas and Baldwin in Ebbw Vale, interrupted by his service in the Royal Air Force.

For the Iron and Steel Trades Confederation, he was from 1973 to 1985 Head of Department, 1985-1993 Asisstentsgeneralsekretär ( Assistant General Secretary ) and then Secretary General in 1999. Since 1993 he is a member of the Board of Directors (Board) of British Steel and UK Steel Enterprise. From 1976 to 1982, Brookman member of the Trade Union Congress Educational Advisory Committee for Wales from 1992 to 1999 at the Trades Union Congress. He was also from 1992 to 2002 member of the European Coal and Steel Committee and the International Metalworkers' Federation. Between 1992 and 1999 he was also President of the Iron and Steel Non-Ferrous Department.

Brookman was a member of the Joint Industrial Council for Slag Industry and the British Steel Joint Accident Prevention Advisory Committee at 1985 to 1993. He was also a member of the British Steel Advisory Committee on Education and Training 1986-1993 and the Board ( Executive Council ) of the European Metalworkers' Federation of Industrial Property 1985 until 1995. since 1991 he is a member of the National Technical University Steel Co -ordinating Committee and since 1993 its chairman. From 1993 to 2002, Brookman member of the European Coal and Steel Community Consultative Committee, 1993-1998 joint Secretary ( Joint Secretary ) of the British Steel Strip Trade Board and the British Steel 's Joint Standing Committee, as well as one of several secretaries ( Joint Secretary ) of the British Steel European Works Council von 1996 to 1999.

Brookman was Director ( Governor ) of the Gwent College of Higher Education from 1980 to 1984 and member of the Trusteeship Council ( trustee ) of the Julian Melchett Trust from 1985 to 1995 since 2001., He is President of the Welsh Trust for Prevention of Abuse.

Membership in the House of Lords

Brookman was on 30 July 1998 for Life peer as Baron Brookman, of Ebbw Vale appointed in the County of Gwent and sitting for the Labour Party in the House of Lords. On 3 November 1998, the official launch took place in the House of Lords with the support of Swraj Paul, Baron Paul and Garfield Davies, Baron Davies of Coity. His inaugural address was delivered on 1 December 1998.

He reported in January 2010 on a draft law on Feurschutz to speak, which he described as a " significant milestone in the legislation".

In July 2010, the award of the National Credit Union Awards for Excellence was held in the premises of the House of Lords, where Brookman was among those present.

Brookman is regularly present at meeting days. In 2011, he was with one exception at each meeting day here.

Family

Since 1958, he is married to Patricia Worthington, daughter of Lawrence Worthington. They have three daughters.
