David Geringas

David Geringas ( born July 29, 1946 in Vilnius ) is a Lithuanian living in Germany cellist and conductor.

Life

Geringas studied from 1963 to 1973 at the Moscow Conservatory cello with Mstislav Rostropovich.

In 1976, he moved to Hamburg, where he worked first as a solo cellist in the first NDR Symphony Orchestra. There followed a busy concert schedule, in which he performed with numerous renowned orchestras, as with the Berlin Philharmonic, all German Radio Symphony orchestras, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the NHK Symphony Orchestra Tokyo.

His repertoire includes works from the Baroque to contemporary pieces. Well-known contemporary composers such as Sofia Gubaidulina, Peteris Vasks and Erkki -Sven Tüür have dedicated to him concerts. In July 2006, the piece is dedicated to him David's Song for Cello and String Quartet by Anatolijus Senderovas premiered in Kronberg.

As a conductor he has appeared regularly on stages at home and abroad. Since 2005 he has been Chief Guest Conductor of the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra Japan. In 2007 he made ​​his debut with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra and the China Philharmonic Orchestra, and in 2009 with the Moscow Philharmonic.

Geringas taught from 1977 to 1986 at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, was appointed in 1980 as Professor of Cello at the Musikhochschule Lübeck and taught in this capacity from 2000 to nine years at the Academy of Music "Hanns Eisler" Berlin. His students include Jens Peter Maintz, Gustav Rivinius, Claudia Black, Troels Svane, Inga Raab, Boris Andrianov, Tatjana Vassilieva, Monika Leskovar, Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, Jing Zhao, Gabetta, Ramon Jaffé and Johannes Moser.

He is married to the pianist Tatjana treasure. His son Alexander Gerin gas was known as a music producer, songwriter and actor.
