David Kelly (actor)

David Kelly ( born July 11, 1929 in Dublin, † February 12, 2012 ) was an Irish film and theater actor.

Life

Kelly attended a Catholic boys' school in Synge Street and began at the age of eight years of his career at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin. He played classics from Beckett to Shakespeare, and from 1959 had regular performances in theater, film and television. The IMDb movie database lists one hundred films in which Kelly was involved.

Since February 1961, he was married to actress Laurie Morton and father of two children.

Awards

For the British comedy Waking Ned Devine! ( Waking Ned ) Kelly was in 1999 for the best second major role for the Chlotrudis Award for Best Actor in a Comedy for a Golden Satellite Award and together with Ian Bannen, Fionnula Flanagan, Susan Lynch and James Nesbitt as an outstanding ensemble cast for a Screen Actors Guild Award nominated. For his portrayal of the grandfather in the film adaptation of children's book Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, he was nominated in 2005 as Best Supporting Actor for the Irish Film and Television Award ( IFTA ).
