David Nitschmann der Bischof

David Nitsch (b. December 27, 1698 in Zauchtenthal; † October 5, 1772 in Bethlehem ( Pennsylvania)) was a bishop of the Moravian Church and a German missionary.

Life and work

With Johann Leonhard Dober he was the first missionary of the Moravian mission station in the West Indies on the island of Saint Thomas. He is considered the founder of Bethlehem in Pennsylvania. 1735, he was ordained in Berlin by Daniel Ernst Jablonski bishop.
