David Parry (conductor)

David Parry (born 23 March 1949 in England ) is a British conductor.

Biography

David Parry studied at the University of Cambridge and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He also studied with Sergiu Celibidache and began his career as assistant to Sir John Pritchard. He worked at the Opera Dortmund and in 1983 director of the Opera 80th He also has a spot as a guest conductor at Opera North hold. Since 1987 he is a freelancer.

David Parry has led several complete opera recordings, most of them with the English label Opera Rara and Chandos. He is known as a specialist in the Italian operas of Donizetti, Rossini, Mercadante, Meyerbeer and Pacini. After the death of Opera Raras label manager Patric Schmid in November 2005 he was additionally appointed along with Ludmilla Andrew as artistic director of this label.

He collaborates with Bruce Ford, Jennifer Larmore, Nelly Miricioiu, Della Jones, Majella Cullagh and William Matteuzzi.
