David Pountney

David Pountney ( born September 10, 1947 in Oxford ) is a British theater director and theater manager.

His breakthrough came in 1972 at the Wexford Festival. He staged as a scenic director of the English National Opera, among others: The Fairy Queen, Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District, Dr. Faustus.

In the Ruhr Triennale, he directed 2007 Bernd Alois Zimmermann's opera " Die Soldaten". Several times he led at the Vienna State Opera director, most recently in March 2008, Verdi's La forza del destino.

Since December 2003, David Pountney is artistic director of the Bregenz Festival. His (most recently until 2013 fixed-term ) contract runs until 2014 before his appointment as director, he also staged in Bregenz. Der fliegende Holländer, Nabucco, Fidelio.

In September 2011, Pountney was Director of the Welsh National Opera in Cardiff ( Welsh National Opera).
