David Sackett

David Lawrence Sackett ( born November 17 1934) is a Canadian physician and one of the pioneers of evidence-based medicine.

He founded in 1967 at McMaster University in Hamilton (Ontario) in Canada, the first University Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics ( Department of Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics ). In this framework, the concepts of clinical epidemiology and research-based patient care have been developed that " Evidence Based Medicine ", " worldwide distribution found under the name since the early 1990s.

From 1994 to 1999, David Sackett founding director of the Centre for Evidence - Based Medicine of the National Health Service at the University of Oxford, England. During this time, Sackett was a pioneer of evidence-based health care in Europe. In 1999, the Kilgore S. Trout Sackett Research & Education Centre at Irish Lake in Ontario.

2007 Science Prize of the German Network for Evidence-Based Medicine was named after David Sackett (see David Sackett price). In 2009 he received the Canada Gairdner Wightman Award.
