David Sellar

William David Hamilton Sellar MVO ( born February 27, 1941) is a Scottish lawyer, genealogist and heraldry. From 2008 until 2013 he served as Lord Lyon King of Arms Head of the Court of the Lord Lyon to Edinburgh.

Life

Sellar attended Fettes College in Edinburgh and studied history at the University of Oxford and Law at the University of Edinburgh. In 1966 he was admitted as a solicitor, two years later, he joined the law faculty of the University of Edinburgh. His work and research focus since that time in Scottish law and the history of Scotland.

He has published on the Lords of the Isles and the history of many Highland Scottish clan. Sellar is Vice President of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland, the Scottish Society for Ancient Research and a member of the Heraldry Society of Scotland, the Heraldry Society of Scotland.

2001 Sellar was appointed Bute Pursuivant of Arms in Ordinary. In 2008 he was Lord Lyon King of Arms and thus the only Scottish coat of arms king. Force this position he was responsible for the leadership of the Scottish coat of arms role. Sellar is married and has three children. The end of 2013, he resigned from his post.
