David Zelag Goodman

David Zelag Goodman ( born January 15, 1930 in Manhattan, New York City; † 26 September 2011 in Oakland, California ) was an American screenwriter.

Life

After attending school, he completed a degree in Drama at Queens College of the City University of New York. In 1954 he wrote the stage play High Named Today, which was played for a short time at Broadway theaters. His debut as an author of a film script he gave in 1959 with the screenplay for the film The Stranglers of Bombay and then created the screenplays for almost twenty other films and television series.

For the screenplay for lovers and other strangers (1970 ) he was nominated along with Joseph Bologna and Renée Taylor for both the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay at the Academy Awards in 1971 as well as the price of the Writers Guild of America for Best Adapted Screenplay. Together with Sam Peckinpah, he wrote the screenplay for the film then Straw Dogs (1971).

In 1975, he wrote the script for Farewell, My favorite of Dick Richards and was nominated to the Edgar Allan Poe Award for best screenplay.
