Dawid Kostecki

Dawid Kostecki (pseudonym: Cygan; * June 27, 1981 in Rzeszów) is a Polish professional boxer in the light heavyweight division.

Boxing career

Kostecki told in interviews of a difficult childhood and a one-year prison stay. Then he chose the way of boxing.

After 13 wins, 11 by KO, he pushed on 25 September 2004 for the WBC Youth World Champion title. He won it against his opponents Gasper Mathew ( 5-2) by TKO in the fifth round. He then defended the title against Dhafir Smith ( 13-6 ), Mukadi Shambuyi ( 15-0 ) and Joseph Marwa ( 17-6 ).

On 15 October 2005, he won with a points victory against Ismail Abdoul ( 25-8 ), the world title of the WBF. In January 2006, he beat the Egyptians Richard Nwoba (8-0 ) in the second round co

On 6 May 2006 he suffered the first defeat of his professional career; he lost to Frenchman Rachid Kanfouah ( 25-5 ) by KO in the ninth round, but his opponent had in the second round on the ground.

On 14 September 2008, he beat the Brazilian Marcelo Leandro Da Silva ( 16-0 ) in the first round co, he also defeated in October 2009, his countryman Grzegorz Soszynski ( 16-0 ) by unanimous decision.

On February 6, 2010, he secured by a TKO win in round 7 against Dario Cichello ( 18-6 ), the world title of the IBC. On April 24 of that year, he could again win a WBF title when he defeated Giulian Ilie ( 15-3 ) on points.

On 23 October 2010 he was master of the Baltic WBC. He defeated while Sean Corbin ( 14-2 ) early. On 25 June 2011, he won additional points by beating Lolenga Mock ( 30-12 ), the Intercontinental Championship title by the WBA. These two titles he defended in December by Ko in the fourth round against Byron Mitchell ( 29-8 ).

A scheduled for 30 June 2012 in the fight against Roy Jones Jr. had to be canceled because Kostecki was found guilty of having promoted as head of a nationally operating organization that illegal prostitution. In addition, he was charged with the offense of drug possession.

Kostecki is married and has two children.
