There were other, moderately successful plates. In 1982, he teamed up with singer Gary Stewart. This collaboration went out two albums. Stewart, who just had a rehab behind him, was also massively alcohol-and drug -dependent and thus strengthened only Dillons problems. The partnership broke up soon and he retired for some years from the public. Finally, he managed to fight down his addiction. He married and became a father.

In the meantime, others were successful with his songs, so he remained in business. In 1988, he again began to take plates. His most successful album Out Of Your Ever - Lovin ' Mind appeared in 1991.
