Dean of Westminster

The Dean of Westminster (English Dean of Westminster ) is the head of the Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster, Westminster Abbey shortly. He has been appointed to the Reformation as the successor of the abbot Westminster Abbey and spent ten years (1540-1550) Bishop of the Diocese of Westminster. Between 1662 and 1802 he was also Bishop of Rochester.

In place of the monastic community from a college dean and chapter gentlemen, low canons and secular staff was created with the task of exercising the continuation of daily worship in the Reformation. The dean and chapter were responsible to the early 20th century and for much of the civil government of Westminster.

Even during the great state occasions the dean plays an obese person. So he has the right to the respective monarchs before and instructed during his coronation in the rites and practices and to support the Archbishop of Canterbury in his duties during the service. It passes the regalia and receives them back to the part. Most recently, he was chairman at the wedding of William Mountbatten -Windsor and Kate Middleton on 29 April 2011.
