Dean Starkey

Dean Starkey ( born March 27, 1967 in Park Ridge ) is a retired American pole vaulter.

As a student at the Illinois College he won in 1988 and 1989, the NCAA Indoor Championships and finished at the Universiade 1989 in Duisburg second place.

From the early 1990s he established himself in the adult area. In 1992, he won the U.S. Indoor Championships. In 1993 he was U.S. vice- champion in the open and qualified for participation in the World Athletics Championships in Stuttgart in 1993. There, however, he left in qualifying. In the next few years he achieved multiple podium finishes at U.S. Championships.

At the World Athletics Championships 1995 in Gothenburg Starkey finished eighth. The greatest success of his career, he finally celebrated at the World Athletics Championships in 1997 in Athens. There, he won with a height of 5.91 m skipped the bronze medal behind Serhiy Bubka ( 6.01 m) and Maxim Tarasov ( 5.96 m).

Dean Starkey is 1,88 m tall and had a competition weight of 77 kg.
