Sports career

Sturridge went through the youth department of Derby County and denied on January 11, 1992 in Southend United 's first competitive game ( 0-1) for the second division. In the following years, the young striker established further in stem formation, also collected in December 1994 at the fourth-class Leihverein Torquay United more match practice and was then treated with 20 goals in the 1995/96 season is an important factor that Derby County for the first time in the Premier League climb. Even in the English top flight he was with eleven league goals in the season 1996/97 successfully and jointly responsible for the ultimately safe relegation - to the gates included a special spectacular goal against Arsenal. He played 4 ½ years for the " Rams" in the Premier League and scored 32 Championship goals in this time.

In January 2001, Sturridge changed hands for 375,000 pounds to league rivals Leicester City, but where he had much less success. Especially after the widely publicized commitment by Ade Akinbiyi for five million pounds of his place in the team was severely compromised. Already in November 2001 lent him the " Foxes " from the second-division club Wolverhampton Wanderers. The cost for the " Wolves " was in the first two games extremely impressive with four goals and already on Christmas day 2001, the parties agreed to a permanent transfer for pounds 350,000. Its sporty high continued unabated and with 21 competitive game hits Sturridge was the best shot of his club in the 2001/ 02 season. The following year, he contributed eleven goals and was able to celebrate the second Erstligaaufstieg in his career at the end. However, the Premier League season 2003/ 04 the Wolves stood under an unlucky star; the injury- plagued Sturridge came in only five games for the course and was briefly loaned middle of the season at Sheffield United. Even after his return to Wolverhampton failed Sturridge, to build on the past performance and regain a regular place and moved in March 2005 free transfer to Queens Park Rangers.

In London was obvious that Sturridge's professional career was inclined to an end. In the eleven appearances for the " Hoops " he remained without an own goal and in December 2005 the club announced the premature end of the short episode. End of June 2006, the attackers tried again at the lower class Kidderminster Harriers, where he despite widespread recognition by the coach for the support of the players off the field and completed only six games in 2006/ 07 did not receive a new contract more after the end of the season.
